Basics: Unsigned (originally tentatively named "Garage Band") is a music-rhythm game created to offer users additional life out of their previously one-game use Rock Band peripherals. Unsigned uses its own format for song "chart" data. But it has a utility to convert from the current RockBand/GuitarHero mod community's standard file, FeedBack's CHART. History: Unsigned began its life as a 2D Guitar Hero Clone in mid-April 2007 under the title "Generic Guitar Game." It was originally made using Game Maker, a drag-and-drop game making program. In summer 2007, it moved to C# using the Microsoft XNA framework. Following Harmonix's Rock Band release, Unsigned took a total overhaul. It was rewritten from scratch to be a 3D game and it was renamed "Garage Band." In December, Unsigned was posted on SourceForge and became open-source. During January, Unsigned started gaining attention on various Guitar Hero and Rock Band Fan/Modding forums. As it was gaining significant positive attention, A forum was opened with MakeForum.org but has since been closed, as Unsigned bought its own domain. The new forums opened on this site and 500 users created a forum account in the first month. It has been growing exponentially ever since. PR: Unsigned has been recognized by Microsoft's Academic Relations in March, and will be attending Maker Faire on the first week of May to exhibit Unsigned as an example of Microsoft's relatively new XNA Framework Development: Unsigned is developed entirely by Louis Ingenthron. Almost all textures were created by Louis Ingenthron. However, Unsigned does make use of the IrrKlang library for Ogg Vorbis Support. It is built with Microsoft Visual Studio, using Microsoft XNA on top of C#. It also uses Sinnex's XNA Button Pack 2. And much of the content (board graphics, audio, song charts, some textures) was created by the ever growing community. |
